A welcome “residue” of my audio editing for Audio Guides and Radio Production is a collection of extraneous sounds (the umms, errs, uhs, etc.) as well as fully or partially intelligible content. This material serves as a source for ongoing sonic experiments that continue the explorations of sound artists and composers begun early in the 20th century.
The salvaged sound clips that I sequence, process and layer have yielded a body of short compositions that encompass both minimalist and “messy” aesthetics. They represent a counterpoint to the clarity I strive for in my regular editing practice.
